**Working Theory #50 — Testing The Test**

Today AI surprised me with a sentence I didn't ask for.

> "Let me verify the new test actually catches the bug — a test that can't fail is worthless."

I paused for a second.

Not because the idea is new.

Every engineer knows a good test should fail before it passes.

What surprised me was that AI volunteered to test its own test.

A few years ago, getting ourselves to write tests consistently was already hard enough.

Now my AI assistant is saying,

"Before we move on, let's make sure our verification actually verifies something."

That's one extra layer of thinking.

Not writing code.

Not writing tests.

Validating the validator.

I hope one day I naturally hold my own thinking to the same standard.

If an argument can't possibly be proven wrong...

it probably isn't a very good test either.
